Ilha Grande, just two hours south of Rio de Janeiro, offers a wide range of activities: from lying on any of its beaches - although they are inaccessible too - to trekkings to the highest point of the island - the Pico del Papagayo, 1,000 meters high - between jungle vegetation, going on kayaking trips or exploring the island in catamarans or more conventional boats.

  • Trekking to Papagayo Peak: This peak is the highest point on the island and is 1,000 meters above sea level. In any other place and normal conditions, it would be a walk of a few hours without apparent difficulty, but you should not forget that this island is basically a jungle. Snakes and poisonous spiders, along with other kinds of animals and insects are the true masters of these lands and it is not allowed to do the trekking on your own. A pity, it seems to me, but good. They told us that the guide would come out for 50 reais each. We didn't do it because we didn't have much time either and chose other activities, but you could see the peak when you approached the coast and it really had the shape of a parrot's head.

  • Catamaran or boat ride on the island: Although the catamaran that comes from Angra do Reis leaves you in the only port area of the island, it, with its great size, has dozens of coves and beaches that can only be accessed by boat. Places such as Lagoa Verde, Lagoa Azul or Praia do Amor - well, I did not give it the name, which certainly shows the tour. They usually leave at 10 or 11 am and return you to the port at 4 or 5 pm and prices vary depending on the type of boat. The catamaran - the fastest and best prepared and we took - costs R $ 60 but there are long boat boats that are sure to be cheaper. They took us to the different lagoons and beaches and we were making stops of about 40 minutes to enjoy baths. After 1 week in Brazil we were finally able to enjoy a couple of days of incredible sun and the excursion tasted like glory. I advise you to also rent glasses equipment - and, whoever wants, fins - to be able to snorkel in those waters. You will see a lot of underwater life including gigantic starfish. Without a doubt, you cannot leave without doing this.

  • Kayak Ride: Although we did not do it due to lack of time, I was left wanting to take a kayak and explore some of the quietest coves on the islands. There is a guy who rents them at an exceptional price: R $ 25 for the whole day. If you ask in any establishment of the island or in your pousada, surely you know to indicate where it is.

  • Trekking to Praia Lopes Mendes: This trekking is free and without a doubt, you have to do it for the great reward that awaits you at the end. With a duration of about 3 hours,
